Document Delivery | Relais‑In‑Transit | Novanet Express

Which one does what?

Document Delivery (DocDel)

Items are requested using the Document Delivery request form and normally are for items not currently available at Dalhousie Libraries or at other Novanet Libraries. These requests are tracked by the Document Delivery staff through the Document Delivery system and when returnable items (eg.books) arrive, you will be notified by email. PLEASE NOTE: DocDel items usually have a short-term loan period, do not get signed out to your Novanet account, and cannot be renewed through the Novanet system. They must be returned to a Dalhousie Library.

Relais-In-Transit (RIT)

Items are those which you requested using the Document Delivery form but which are supplied by a Novanet library. You will receive notice of their arrival via email. You pick them up from your designated Dalhousie Library and they get signed out to your Novanet Circulation account.  They are tracked through the Novanet Circulation system and Novanet borrowing, renewal and overdue policies apply to them. They can be returned at any Novanet library.

Novanet Express (NE)

Items are not requested using the Document Delivery web form but via the “Find in Library/Request” option in the Novanet online catalogue. NE items are provided by the Novanet Library you selected from the catalogue as the supplier library. You will be notified by email when the item is ready to be picked up. You pick up NE items from the Novanet Library you designated as the pickup location when submitting the request. NE items get signed out to your Novanet Circulation account and are tracked through the Novanet Circulation system. Novanet borrowing, renewal and overdue policies apply to them. They can be returned at any Novanet library. For more information see Novanet Express.
