Laptop Lending

Laptop loans are available to current Dalhousie students who need access to a computer beyond what is provided in the Libraries and computer labs. The Kellogg, Killam, MacRae, and Sexton libraries have laptops that may be borrowed for short-term and long-term loans. Laptop lending is not available at the Sir James Dunn Law Library. Please note: Supply is limited. Laptops are loaned on a first-come, first-served basis.*

All borrowers must sign a Laptop Loan Agreement. You can also request a laptop at a library service point and complete a laptop request form in person.

*Students with outstanding charges over $20 on their library account must settle their accounts before borrowing a laptop.

Short-term laptop

4 hours (with up to 3 renewals)

Long-term laptop loan

1 month

Renewals can be done in person at the service desk, online, or by phone.

Printing

You can send print jobs from your laptop to any printer in any Dalhousie Libraries location through our wireless printing option.

Saving

Save your files to OneDrive or to an external USB drive.

WARNING: Short-term loan laptops will lose all files if the machine is shut down or restarted while on loan. You must save your files externally, either to One Drive or to an external USB. Files are not recoverable once the laptop has been shut down or restarted.

Long-term loan laptops are wiped and restored upon being returned to the library.

Software

The PC and Mac laptops have the same software that you would find on the computers in the Dal Libraries. The laptops also have the VPN client, which you will need to log in to in order to access ArcGIS, Maple, Matlab, and Solidworks on the laptops while off-campus.

Support

The IT Help Desk can support any technical issues you encounter with laptops borrowed from the Libraries.
