Robert Pope's Hug

About the painting

About the artist

Robert Pope (1956-1992) was a gifted artist whose career was cut short by cancer. While his disease was in remission, he completed three remarkable series of paintings. His renowned Illness and Healing collection, showing the cancer experience from the patient's perspective, has been exhibited in 56 cities in Canada, the United States, England and Ireland.

His book Illness and Healing (Kellogg Library call no.: WZ 330 P826i 1991) is distributed to first year students in many Canadian Medical Schools. A set of 33 slides of his work are used as teaching tools in 12 countries. Framed reproductions of his various images are available for purchase.
