Subject Liaisons
Dalhousie University Libraries' subject liaisons are responsible for selecting journals, books, electronic resources and archival material to support teaching and research in specific disciplines. Liaison services are also provided by subject librarian/liaisons, e.g. preparation for new courses and programmes, instructional workshops, research consultation, etc.
Subject liaisons
- conduct instruction sessions for your class
- create an online subject guide for your class
- help design effective research assignments
- meet with individual students who require assistance with library research
- consult on new courses you are developing
- prepare library collection assessments that are required for new course proposals
- consult on how to incorporate information literacy into your course
- consider recommendations with regard to book purchases and journal subscriptions
Instructional sessions and classroom support
Instructors are invited to contact their subject liaison to discuss library instruction options for their courses. Subject liaisons welcome opportunities to work with instructors on projects such as
- classroom instruction in information retrieval and critical research skills (general or assignment-specific)
- identifying and providing instruction to students on how to access, use, and evaluate relevant print and electronic collections (e.g. newspapers, drug information etc.)
- designing effective research assignments
- creating and identifying relevant open educational resources to support course content
- integrating resources and instructional content into in-person, blended or online learning environments
