Open Access and Open Educational Resources

What are Open Educational Resources?

The generally accepted definition is that "Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching and learning materials that are freely available online for everyone to use, whether you are an instructor, student or self-learner. Examples of OER include: full courses, course modules, syllabi, lectures, homework assignments, quizzes, lab and classroom activities, pedagogical materials, games, simulations, and many more resources contained in digital media collections from around the world."

BC Campus Open Textbooks

A project funded by the government of British Columbia, this website contains a directory to hundreds of open textbooks, which can be adapted/modified for use.

College Open Textbooks

A collection of twenty-eight educational non-profit and for-profit organizations, affiliated with more than 200 colleges, is focused on driving awareness and adoptions of open textbooks to more than 2000 community and other two-year colleges.

Directory of Open Access Books

A discovery service for peer reviewed books published under an Open Access license. DOAB provides a searchable index to the information about these books, with links to the full texts of the publications at the publisher’s website or repository.

Librivox

Librivox states their goal is to make all books in the public domain available, for free, in audio format on the Internet.

Project Gutenberg
