Preservation Planning

Define strategies, monitor change, ensure sustainability

Preservation planning is a core function of trusted digital repositories. It defines and manages strategies for ensuring digital files are accessible and functional over the long-term. Preservation planning usually produces resources such as:

  • Preservation policy
  • Preservation implementation plan
  • Preservation action plans
  • File format policy registry

The Dalhousie Libraries' Preservation Committee is responsible for the Preservation Planning functions defined in the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) standard (ISO 14721:2012).
