File Format Policy Registry
File-based policies to support digital preservation
Dalhousie Libraries identifies file formats using tools such as DROID, JHOVE and PRONOM through the FITS software package.
A file format policy registry (FPR) is under development as part of broader efforts to implement a digital preservation system for the Libraries. The Libraries aims to use well-known, widely accepted formats that support long-term preservation. If a donor or office of primary responsibility wants to use a specific format not meeting the Libraries' criteria, an agreement must be reached between the and the Libaries.
