Quiet Spaces
Quiet areas and study carrels where you can focus on your work
In all libraries, consideration should be given to others nearby. Each library has areas for quiet study where users are required to keep conversations to a minimum, cellphone use is restricted and audible music is not allowed.
KELLOGG LIBRARY
The Kellogg has three designated Quiet Study Rooms on the 2nd floor, with seating for fifteen people.
KILLAM LIBRARY
The Killam has a policy that divides the library into quiet zones. The zones are listed below. Consult the floorplans on the Killam home page to find each spot.
Quiet study areas
Library policy describes these as places where "No personal or cellphone conversations, no audible music" is allowed.
- 4th and 5th floors (stack areas* & atrium hallways**)
- 2nd and 3rd floors (stack areas)
- 2nd floor Reading Room (McNab Room)
Limited conversation areas: muted conversations, no audible music
- 2nd & 3rd floors: Atrium hallways
- 5th floor: Archives and Special Collections
- Main Learning Commons
- North Learning Commons computer tables
- Lobby
* "Stack areas" are the study and book stack areas surrounding the atrium
** "Atrium hallways" are the interior hallways overlooking the atrium
Cell or mobile phones
Muted, brief conversations are permissible everywhere except in quiet study areas. Loud, extended phone calls should be taken outside the library.
