Killam Learning Commons

Learning Commons are located in three areas of the Killam Memorial Library. Different services are offered in each location.

South Learning Commons

The South Learning Commons is the largest Learning Commons at Dalhousie and is a hub that offers several key services. It is located on the ground floor of the Library and offers the following equipment and services:

  • Scholar workstations
  • Multimedia workstations
  • Apple iMac workstations
  • Express workstations are available for public use
  • Book scanner with email and USB capability
  • Flat-bed scanners
  • Two high capacity black and white printers, one colour printer
  • Large format printer for printing posters and maps
  • 7 group study rooms can be booked in advance by groups of three to six people
  • LC@aGlance shows workstation availability in real time

Killam Help Desk
The Help Desk is located in room G45 in the South Learning Commons. It provides walk-in, phone, and e-mail support to Dalhousie faculty, staff, and students.

Hardware Services

Hardware Services is also located in room G45 and provides computer and laser printer repairs, parts and peripheral sales, and authorized warranty service to university departments, students, staff and faculty.

The Writing Centre

Located in the South Learning Commons room G40C, the Writing Centre can help you improve your academic writing through free one-on-one individual tutoring sessions.

Desktop support

Desktop support is available at all times. Speak to staff members circulating the Commons or located in the Help Desk.

Statistical Computing Consulting-Room G40H

The statistical and data consulting service is provided by Academic Computing Services, and is available to faculty and graduate students who require sophisticated data analysis.

  • Statistical computing consulting provides support for statistical software including Minitab, SAS and SPSS, and the use of data sets available from the library

Adaptive workstation - Room G40L

The adaptive workstation hosts a variety of applications to assist students with special needs by providing screen magnifiers, screen reader and a wheelchair accessible desk.

North Learning Commons

The North Learning Commons is located within the Bennett Room, to the right of the Circulation Desk.

  • Microforms Collections are accessible from the Bennett Room
Reference & Research Services

Inside the entrance to the North Learning Commons is the Killam Research Assistance Desk. Librarians provide one-stop research and referral services for faculty, students, and other members of the Dalhousie community.

Upper Learning Commons

The Upper Learning Commons is on the second floor of the Library, alongside the McNab Reading Room.
