Document Delivery Services to registered residents of Nova Scotia
Make a document delivery request
Dalhousie libraries extend document delivery privileges to residents of the provinces of Nova Scotia who are registered borrowers in good standing.
- Register for a library card if you do not already have one.
- Access the document delivery request form
- Login to the request form:
- Enter the14-digit library barcode number on your Library card
- Password is the the last 4 digits of your phone number registered with the Dalhousie Libraries.
- Fill out the request form. Provide all the information about the item you need in the fields provided.
- If you have any problems, contact a Dalhousie Circulation Desk
- Enter the14-digit library barcode number on your Library card
Delivery times
Delivery times vary depending on the type of item you are requesting, the location of the supplying library and the delivery method.
- Articles usually take 1 - 3 business days
- Books normally take 3 days - 1 month.
Electronic delivery
Articles/copies will be delivered electronically to your registered email address. Each email will include a link to the article.
- The link can be opened only once.
- The link will be available for 14 days after receipt.
Tracking requests
How to track your document delivery request:
- Login to the request form and select List All Requests
- Click on the request you wish to query or use the Query function to search for a request by title, author keyword or request number.
- Once you have the request on the screen, look under the Message heading. If a book has arrived, the words Document Loaned will appear; for copied material, the word Delivery E-mail or Photocopy - No Scan.
- Contact Document Delivery (email link: docdel@dal.ca if you need assistance in tracking the status of your request.
Cancellations
Login in to the request form and Query the requested item
- Use the Cancel Request or Send Message functions at the bottom of the screen.
- Canceling a request depends on whether the supplying library has already processed the request or not.
- Requesters are responsible for any applicable charges if the request is unable to be cancelled.
Loan periods
Loan periods vary and depend on the lending library. Usually, loans last 3 weeks with no renewals.
- Blue wrapper around the item indicates its due date. Do not remove the blue wrapper!
Pick up and return
All loans must be picked up at a Dalhousie library.
- Default location to pick up document deliveries is the Dalhousie library where you registered for your library card.
- If you want to pick up documents from another Dalhousie library, select that library from the drop down Pickup location box on the request form.
- Return items to any Dalhousie Library by the due date indicated on the blue wrapper.
Charges
- There is no charge for items provided by Novanet libraries however provision of material is at the discretion of the supplying library.
The Document Delivery department will not process any requests to external libraries without payment authorization. To expedite requests indicate the amount you are willing to pay in the Maximum Charge field of the request form.
- $10.00 charge per item provided by other Canadian libraries.
- $50.00 charge per item provided by non-Canadian libraries.
- Payment is due upon pick up the item or upon receipt of the monthly invoice for items delivered directly.
- $20.00 non-refundable fee will be charged for any item which is not returned after overdue reminders have been sent. Delinquent borrowers will lose their borrowing privileges.
- Replacement costs for lost or long overdue items are the responsibility of the requester.
- Payments may be paid by cash, debit, VISA or Mastercard
