ILL Instructions
These instructions are intended for libraries that wish to borrow material from Dalhousie Libraries. If you are a Dalhousie faculty, student, staff member and want to place a Document Delivery request please go to the Document Delivery Services and request form for Dal users.
How to order
- Obtain your user name and password: Contact Dalhousie Document Delivery at docdel@dal.ca or by phone at 902-494-3612
- Go to the web form
- Fill in your user name and password in capital letters only
- Select a function: for example, "Request Book" for a loan or "Request Article" for a copy
- Click Submit.
- Supplier: Click on the arrow next to Supplier to access the drop down menu.
- Pick the code name of the ASIN-DDG Library where you want to send the request (NSHD for all Dalhousie libraries)
- Fill out the form: Enter bibliographic information in the appropriate fields. Please include ISBN and ISSN numbers whenever possible
- Source of Information: say where you found that Dalhousie owned this item, ie. Novanet catalogue, AMICUS, WorldCat, etc.
- Requester field: Add your UNIQUE request number &/or your requester's name
- Notes field: ie. Please call for courier pick up or need only this edition
- Delivery Method: Mail or Courier for Loans; Email, Fax, Ariel for Articles
- Submit: Click on "Request Book" or "Request Article" button at the bottom of the page. A confirmation number is generated and emailed to your registered email address.
How to view the status of your requests
Select the List All, List Open or Query options from the login screen or from the buttons at the top of the request forms.
- List all - lists all your submitted requests
- List open - lists all your incomplete requests
- Query - allows you to look at the detailed status of any particular request. Please note that many of the entries in the status log are system generated and may require staff assistance to interpret. If you need any assistance reading the log please contact the Document Delivery staff.
How to renew, cancel or send a general message
- Query your request and then use the buttons at the bottom of the "Request Status" or "Request Detail" pages to send renewal, cancellation or general messages to the Document Delivery staff.
